It’s the sequel to the smash hit 4 Fantastic Vikings Go Fishing, which has been sitting in Yggdrasil’s top three titles since launch a year ago!

Today, we caught up with Henry McLean to talk about why the collaboration works so well, how the icy new features came together, and what players can look forward to when the Vikings set sail into frozen waters.

This is your second adventure with Yggdrasil’s Vikings – why did you decide to do it again?

The first game, 4 Fantastic Vikings Go Fishing, was such a big hit with players, one of our top titles of all time! Players loved seeing the Vikings take on our fishing world, and it’s still one of the most-played titles across Yggdrasil’s entire network of over 400 games. When you see that kind of love, you know there’s more adventure to be had.

We wanted to take the Vikings somewhere new – colder, bolder, and with even more excitement. So 4 Fantastic Vikings Go Ice Fishing was born. This time, we’ve added new features like Hross, the charming Viking Walrus, as well as Persistent Ice Bloxs that grow in value with every respin, and the Giant Ice Blox in the base game that can be smashed open by the Mighty Kraken and award some truly massive wins. 

It’s everything players loved about the first one, with a lot of exciting new features to explore and enjoy!

Stepping into a beloved franchise like Vikings Go Berzerk and merging it with your own player favourite, 4 Fantastic Fish, must’ve been very graphically challenging. How did you seamlessly blend both designs?

It was definitely a creative challenge, but that’s what makes it exciting. You’ve got two powerful worlds: the gritty, character-led Vikings universe and our bright, detailed Fantastic Fish series. The goal was to make it feel like one cohesive world, not a patchwork, while respecting the designs from the original slots.

Our art and animation teams worked very hard to ensure the style, tone, and atmosphere flowed perfectly together. For this new release, we thought the icy setting would give it a fresh visual twist while still blending pretty seamlessly with the original Vikings Go designs. I think it turned out pretty cool!

Lastly, tell us a bit about 4 Fantastic Vikings Go Ice Fishing – what makes it so unique, and what’s your favourite addition?

This sequel really builds on everything players loved the first time around, with some seriously fun new layers. 

Firstly, we brought back the Money Ways™ mechanic, which creates instant wins from cash symbols. What you see is what you get as long as it is part of a ways win. We also brought back the Mighty Kraken, but this time, not only can he swish things around to make bigger wins happen, he can also drop huge symbols on the reels and smash them open to reveal monstrous MONEY WAYS™ wins, adding to the fun! The Fighting Respins feature is also back – here the Vikings battle to award extra wins and multipliers.

But of course, there are plenty of new features to play with as well. The first one is the Ice Blox. In the base game, the Giant Ice Blox can land on any spin and shatter to reveal big combos and prizes, while in the Fighting Respins bonus, the Persistent Ice Bloxs grow in value on every respin, adding another layer of excitement and anticipation.
